1) Use Clean Ingredients
Opt for products made without synthetic fragrances, parabens, pthalates, dyes, alcohol or refined oils. They disrupt the delicate balance of your hormones and confuse your skin making it prone to breakouts / free radical damage.
2) Embrace Oils
Oils should mimic your skin’s sebum (ie - tallow, jojoba, camellia) Look for cold pressed, unrefined and organic. Check the comedogenic (pore clogging) rating if you’re acne prone. A score of 1-2 is best. Try oil cleansing by applying the oil to a damp cotton pad and gently wipe away impurities.
3) Not All Sunscreens are Created Equal
Natural sunscreens use minerals like zinc oxide to provide broad spectrum protection without the health risks associated with chemical filters like oxybenzone or avobenzone. They are also the safer choice for the environment.
4) Facial Massage or Gua Sha for Radiance
Give yourself a gentle facial when applying a moisturizer to stimulate blood flow, reduce puffiness and enhance your skin’s natural glow. Use your fingertips or tools like a gua sha stone with light pressure, focusing on upward and outward motions. Always apply a facial oil or moisturizer beforehand to avoid tugging your skin. Include your jawline to help relax any tension.
5) Lymphatic Drainage Techniques
After moisturizing, gently sweep downward along the sides of your neck, just above the collarbone down and outward across your chest. These motions encourage lymph flow, helping to remove toxins and reduce fluid buildup.
6) Don't Forget Neck and Décolletage
A vital tip because they're often overlooked but are just as prone to signs of aging and environmental damage as your face. Extend your product applications to these areas daily and target with special treatments on occasion.
7) Prioritize Gut Health
Your skin reflects your internal health. A diet rich in probiotics, fiber, and antioxidants can help reduce inflammation and improve your skin's clarity.
8) Supportive Sleep Habits
Invest in pillowcases made from natural fibers like organic linen or silk. Silk is gentle and reduces friction. Organic linen is breathable, hypoallergenic and can reduce irritation. Both materials are free from harsh chemicals. Sleeping on your back if possible, helps to avoid creasing the skin.
9) Seasonal Exfoliation
In summer, use gentle exfoliation more frequently to clear sweat and sunscreen buildup. In winter, reduce gentle exfoliation to once a week to avoid over-stripping already dry skin.
10) Hydration Inside and Out
Not only should we be drinking plenty of water daily to stay hydrated on the inside... give your skin a drink as well. Tallow, oils and other nourishing creams are excellent at sealing in moisture but don't contain water themselves. Spritz your skin with water immediately after cleansing before applying your moisturizer or do so when your skin is already damp after a shower to lock in that hydration.
11) A Moment of Self Love
Take a pause during your skincare routine to connect with yourself. Look into your own eyes in the mirror and say, “I love you” or another affirmation that resonates. It might feel strange at first, but this simple act can foster self-compassion and build confidence. We truly believe this!
