Roma & Lou is inspired by my daughter's names. They are the brightest little lights of my life. My daily reminder to embrace the highest expression of myself.

What began as a mother’s quest to heal grew into something meaningful, rooted in care and intention. My youngest daughter developed eczema at the age of one. She suffered from red, severely dry and itchy patches all over her body. It was winter then, and long sleeves and pants were the only things keeping her from scratching until her skin broke. I anxiously anticipated the warmer months ahead when she would wear T-shirts and shorts, exposing her skin.

I spent months testing a variety of natural, plant-based moisturizers commonly recommended for eczema. I focused on her diet, avoiding sugar, gluten and dairy as well as eliminating certain foods to see if any were the cause. Not being able to solve this issue for her was one of my lowest points as a mom. The weight of it stayed with me every day. Relentlessly searching for a safe, long term solution while seeking advice from both a pediatrician and naturopath. I’ll admit, there were moments when I turned to the steroid cream prescribed by the doctor, just to bring her some relief... The risks are high for bleaching and thinning the skin, how could this be the only thing that helps? Thankfully, a friend mentioned that she recently came across tallow based skincare, rendered beef fat. I hadn't heard of this and did a deep dive online. Curious about the many benefits attributed to this humble ingredient and determined to try anything natural or holistic, I decided to order some and create a balm for my daughter.

As a person who loves to cook, bake and create in the kitchen I decided to continue making my own, creating different tallow based formulas. I enjoy researching and discovering new ingredients to accompany the tallow, making super skin loving blends. This led me to further my education, obtaining a diploma in organic skincare formulation from Formula Botanica, the leading institution for organic cosmetic formulation. After spending over a year working with this temperamental ingredient in my kitchen, I’ve created products I’m truly proud to share. I’m passionate about raising awareness of the incredible benefits of grass finished tallow, because no one should have to deal with irritated skin.
